Norshore has secured more work for a recently delivered newbuild after winning a top-hole drilling contract on Shell’s under-development Malikai field off Sabah, Malaysia.
The award, for which a value was not disclosed, will see the riserless drilling unit Norshore Atlantic start work in mid-August on the job, which is aimed at cutting drilling costs for the Anglo-Dutch operator, according to Norshore.
The vessel, which recently started on a light well intervention contract off Indonesia after being delivered fin March, will be kept busy at Malikai until the end of the year.
The multi-purpose unit, which can operate in shallow and midwater conditions, is also capable of plug-and-abandonment work as part of subsea decommissioning and has a lower dayrate compared with a traditional rig.
It was built at a reported cost of $245 million at the Batamec yard in Indonesia, owned by Singapore-based Otto Marine.
At the end of last year, the Norwegian drilling contractor ordered a second vessel, Norshore Pacific, at the Yantai CIMC Raffles yard in China that is set for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2016.
The company, which intends to carry out a stocklisting on the Oslo bourse late this year or in early 2015, is looking to build up its fleet to five vessels by 2018.
